TL;DR: We don't sell your data to third parties. We use third party services to help collect and analyze data about how you use our service so we can improve it. If you connect YouTube, we only use that access to identify your channel and import videos you choose.

Welcome to Lengualytics. This Privacy Policy explains how Nicholas Russell Consulting ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects your personal information when you use our website and services (collectively, the "Service").

By using our Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Your Consent

By creating an account or signing in to our Service, you explicitly consent to the collection and use of your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy, including the use of analytics cookies and tracking technologies.

If you visit our website without creating an account, you will be presented with a cookie consent banner where you can choose to accept or reject non-essential cookies before any tracking begins.

Information We Collect

Personal Information

When you create an account or use our Service, we may collect:

  • Profile information (profile picture, language preferences, timezone)
  • Language learning data (hours tracked, entries, progress)
  • YouTube channel information if you connect a channel (see YouTube and Google Account Data below)

We automatically collect certain information when you use our Service:

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

Third-Party Services

Our Service integrates with third-party services, including:

  • Clerk: Authentication and user management
  • PostHog: Analytics and product insights
  • Vercel: Hosting and infrastructure
  • YouTube / Google: YouTube Data API for public video and channel data, and, if you connect a channel, to list and import your videos
  • Iframely: Title, thumbnail, and other public metadata when you add a video by URL

These third parties have their own privacy policies governing their use of your information. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.

YouTube and Google Account Data

Lengualytics uses YouTube API Services. Some features work with public YouTube data. Creators can also connect a YouTube channel to import their own videos into the Service.

If you connect your YouTube channel

If you choose Connect YouTube, you authorize Lengualytics to access your YouTube account with read-only permission (the youtube.readonly scope). We do not request permission to upload, edit, or delete your YouTube videos, and we do not access Gmail, Drive, or other Google products through this connection.

When you connect, we may collect and store:

  • Your YouTube channel ID, channel name, custom URL, and channel profile picture
  • An OAuth refresh token, stored encrypted, so we can call the YouTube Data API on your behalf without asking you to sign in every time
  • Metadata for videos you choose to import (video ID, title, description, duration, publish date, and privacy status)

We use this Google user data only to:

  • Confirm the YouTube channel belongs to you and attach it to your creator account
  • List videos from that channel so you can select which ones to add to Lengualytics
  • Create Lengualytics resources from the videos you import
  • Keep the connection working until you disconnect or delete your account

Limited use of Google user data

We use Google user data solely to provide and improve these user-facing YouTube features. We do not sell it. We do not use it for advertising, including personalized ads. We do not transfer it to third parties except to service providers who help us operate the Service (for example hosting), when required by law, or with your consent. We do not allow humans to read it unless you give us permission, it is necessary for security or legal reasons, or the data is aggregated and can no longer be tied to you.

Separately, we use the YouTube Data API with an API key (not your Google login) to look up public channel profile pictures and to expand public playlist URLs when someone pastes a playlist into the Service. That is public YouTube data, not access to a private Google account.

Your YouTube tokens are not shared with advertisers or other users. Video metadata you import may appear in the Service as a resource according to the visibility you choose (for example public in the library, or members-only).

We keep the connection and encrypted token while the channel stays connected. If you import videos, those Lengualytics resources and their metadata remain until you delete them or your account. We do not keep using your YouTube account after you revoke access.

You can revoke Lengualytics' access in your Google Account permissions. You can also contact us and ask us to disconnect the channel. Revoking access stops future YouTube API calls; it does not automatically delete resources you already imported.

By using YouTube features on Lengualytics, you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.

International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. These countries may have different data protection laws. We take steps to ensure that your information receives adequate protection.

Children's Privacy

Our Service is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us, and we will take steps to delete such information.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
